What do they offer?

Support for Parents

They support parents by offering free parenting courses which are designed for any parent wanting to invest in and strengthen their relationship with their child.

Using Care for the Family’s ‘Time out for Parents’ course material, Jen (from FMY) organises courses each half term that are delivered by her trained parenting facilitators that relate to different stages of family life. These FREE parenting courses aim to build family relationships and provide a safe space to share the parenting journey.

They run a selection of their courses and events every half term with a mixture of in person and online courses during the day or on an evening.

How can I access their parenting courses?

Support for Couples

FMY seek to help couples stay connected to each other and invest in their relationship. They put on regular one off ‘Time Out for Couples’ events to help couples to proactively invest in their relationship. Their next event will be on Saturday 18th April. They are partnering with the The Good Mental Health Project – York CVS to put on an event called Time out for couples: Wellbeing. This event will look at:
  • How we can prioritise our own wellbeing to be better equipped to maintain healthy, supportive relationships.
  • How self-care helps us regulate our emotions, communicate more effectively, and show up with empathy and patience for others.
Family Matters York also offers a 5-6 session ‘Reconnect’ service, which is a couple-to-couple mentoring service introducing couples to basic relationship skills and positive relationship habits as well as their Strong Foundations Initiative, a short 4 session course for any couple entering a committed relationship, whether that be marriage, civil partnership or forming a new blended family together and want to lay some strong foundations for their relationship.

Emma (from FMY) matches client couples with their own trained Support Couple to guide them through their Reconnect sessions or the Strong Foundations course.

Both services typically look at ways the client couple can embed relationship skills like active listening, positive communication, building emotional connection and effective conflict resolution into their relationship.
