Dealing with different issues,
managing in different ways

Phobias

A phobia is a fear, more than just being scared of something, you are terrified by it.

Symptoms

  • Changing your routine to avoid your fear
  • Avoiding certain situations
  • Panic attacks

Causes

Phobias are usually start from an event or multiple events that have happened in your life. It makes sense to be scared of a dog if you were bitten by one as a kid right?

You may not be always able to remember these events or situations and that’s fine, you may have been too young to remember.

Remember, phobias are real and terrifying no matter what you are scared of or what it’s about.

Treatment

Sometimes you grow out of them over time or just learn to manage them.

Some people take small steps to overcome their fear, for example, if its dogs you are afraid of, start by looking a picture of a dog repeatedly at different times until it no longer scares you, then build up to meeting a dog.

Some people like to face their fear so they would simply go straight out and meet a dog to cure their phobia.

What you want to do about your phobia, it’s like all aspects of mental health, if it is affecting your daily life, then you need to find some help. Counselling or CBT might help and depending on the severity of the phobia there are some more in depth therapies.
