Options

Ring a crisis line and they will be able to talk to you and try to calm you down.

Call 999 for an ambulance or go straight to A&E if you are in immediate danger.

 

SAMARITANS

How to contact

24 hours a day, you can talk to them at any time in any way and completely off the record about what it is you might be going through

What to expect

  1. Once you ring the number, it will say “hello you have reached Samaritans” and then will ring until one of the operators is available.
  2. They will let you share at your own time and will listen to you about what it is you are going through

PAPYRUS HOPELINEUK

How to contact

HOPELINEUK is a confidential support and advice service for young people under the age of 35 who may be having thoughts of suicide and anyone concerned a young person may be having thoughts of suicide.

What to expect

A HOPELINEUK advisor will hear about the things that are happening in your life that are contributing to your thoughts of suicide and provide advice about how you can cope with your thoughts of suicide, or where you can access help.

  1. They may not answer first time because sometimes the lines will be very busy.
  2. You can leave a message with a name and number and someone will try and ring you back.
  3. But do try ring again.
  4. You won’t be asked for any of your personal details, maybe just your name
  5. The first person you should hear will either be one of the advisors or the answering machine.

Free text service providing 24/7 crisis support across the UK. 

  • If you’re aged 25 or under, and are experiencing a personal crisis, are unable to cope and need support, you can text THEMIX to 85258. 
  • They can deal with topics such as suicidal thoughts, abuse or assault, self-harm, bullying, or relationship breakdowns.

If you are nervous about calling, you can just ring up and not say anything to see what it would be like to ring the service.

They also have a 1-2-1 counselling chat online or use your “locker” to email messages and somebody will try respond within 24 hours.

  3. To talk to a Childline counsellor

Between Midnight – 7am it may be busy and there will be a reduced amount of counsellors so you may be only to talk to you for 15 minutes.

CALM

CALM is the Campaign Against Living Miserably and it is aimed at men. Although it is aimed at men, anyone can ring the phone number or message the webchat.
