The Island
About The Island
The Island is a registered charity that provides one-to-one mentoring programmes for local children and young people (aged between 8-18) experiencing difficulties with their mental, emotional and social wellbeing through recreational activity. The Island’s fully trained volunteer mentors help develop young peoples confidence, self esteem and resilience so that they can take positive steps forward in their lives.
What do they offer?
One to one mentoring
If one-to-one mentoring would be beneficial, The Island will look to match the young person with a one-to-one volunteer mentor. They will help nurture and develop the child or young person’s positive thoughts and feelings of themselves through recreational activities. These activities can include everything from having a meal together to going to the cinema or simply going out on a walk.
We are currently working at full capacity however, please do sign up to our newsletter via our website, as we will send out updates to subscribers to advise when we are going to re-open for referrals when a date has been confirmed.
Referrals can ONLY be submitted using the accessible referral e-form on our website as this is our most revised and up to date document. Once this link is no longer active we will have reached capacity in our numbers.
Please contact us directly if you require further support to submit a referral when we are open.
How to get involved?
Anyone can submit a referral to The Island, however, there are only particular times of the year that they accept referrals, so please do check their website for more information www.theislandyork.org.
