York St John are the university in town, that has a whole host of courses to offer, they do lots of things in the community and have a range of support for its students too.

Wellbeing Team

The wellbeing team at York St John University is made up of experienced, accredited counsellors and mental health practitioners. We’re here to support you with a wide range of issues such as:

· Stress or anxiety

· Low mood or depression

· Bereavement or loss

· Relationship difficulties

· Any other concerns affecting your mental health or emotional wellbeing

Support might be a one-off session or a series of sessions, depending on your needs. If further support is appropriate, we’ll help you find the right services or resources. To book an appointment, please complete the self-referral form.

Wellbeing Drop-In (No Appointment Needed)

If you’d prefer a short, informal chat, our drop-in sessions are a great way to speak with someone face-to-face:

· What is it? A short (20 – 30 minute) session offering support and information around your wellbeing and mental health.

· When? Monday to Friday, 1.00pm – 3.30pm.

· Where? Go to the Student Hub Information Services Desk in Holgate and let the staff know you’re here for the Wellbeing Drop-In.

Welfare Support

Our Welfare Advisers are here to support you with practical or sensitive issues that might be affecting your wellbeing or your ability to study, including:

· Harassment or abuse

· Domestic violence or sexual assault

· Pregnancy or parenting

· Caring responsibilities

· Legal or police-related matters

24/7 Support – Spectrum.Life

Students also have access to Spectrum.Life, a 24/7 confidential support service for YSJ students. You can speak to someone about anything that’s on your mind, including stress, anxiety, grief, relationship difficulties, or financial concerns.

Exercise for Wellbeing

The wellbeing team are offering ‘Exercise for Wellbeing’ to all students. This 6-week course of exercise classes is for YSJ students facing mental health challenges (e.g., depression, anxiety, stress) or those who would like to improve their general wellbeing. The classes will be facilitated by colleagues at YSJ Active, who are trained fitness instructors, with support from mental health practitioners from the wellbeing team. Students will be offered a brief assessment of their wellbeing prior to the course and a follow-up appointment with a mental health practitioner to consider next steps after completion. Classes will be on Wednesdays 11.00am to 12.00pm held in the gym on our Lord Mayor’s Walk site and can be accessed by contacting the wellbeing team at: wellbeingenquiries@yorksj.ac.uk
