The University of York is a Russell Group university that has its main campus in Heslington. There are also lots of career and personal development opportunities, including a dedicated student careers service, a wide range of societies, sports teams and volunteering opportunities and so much more. University of York also has a variety of student support services that all of our students can access whenever they need it.
What do they offer?
Open Door and Student Wellbeing Officers: Open Door is the University of York’s team of Mental Health Practitioners and Student Wellbeing Officers who provide support to registered students experiencing psychological or mental health difficulties. They are able to provide students with some counselling sessions, as well as support in accessing further support if need be.
They can help provide a range of support for students, including post-graduate research and taught students. You can get in touch with Open Door via opendoor@york.ac.uk, you can call them at +44(0)1904 322140 or use their self-referral form (You can only access this if you are a student)
Each department has an allocated Student Wellbeing Officer (SWO) who is someone you can discuss any concerns or struggles you may be experiencing while you are at University. To access SWOs, speak to your academic supervisor or a member of your departmental administration team.
Student Hub: The Student Hub is the University of York’s first point of contact for students to help find any support and advice that they may need during their studies. They have two advice and support teams, one for UK students and one for International Students. They can provide assistance with formal letters, student finance, disability support, private renting and other issues that students may face whilst at University and beyond.
Opening Hours: 10am-4pm, Monday to Friday, including outside of term time (although some exceptions, such as bank holidays, are made).
Talk Campus:
The University of York provides a provision for all students to Talk Campus, which is an instant, free support for student mental health. It’s an online peer support network specifically designed with students in mind, offering 24/7 support to its users anywhere in the world. The information in the app is available in 26 languages. There is also a clinical helpline that is also accessible through the app, which is staffed by qualified clinicians in 5 languages.
Talk Campus is offered by the University of York, but it is a fully confidential service so the University won’t know that you have accessed the service, nor are you able to see where other student users are from. For University of York students, though, information on other University support services are embedded into the Talk Campus app.
You can download the app here. You can download the app as normal from your app store, but you will need your University of York email address to grant you access.
