St Nicks

Who are we?

We are St Nicks, based at St Nicks Environment Centre hidden behind residential properties in the Tang Hall area of York. We have a thriving 24-acre nature reserve that is free to explore and enjoy.

At St Nicks we all see and feel the benefits of being outdoors and connected to nature. These benefits can be physical, mental or a combination of both! Our Nature-Based Wellbeing team run groups and activities for both adults and children.

What do we offer?

Our new outdoor youth group, Urban Wild, will get young people, aged 11-16, into nature and trying out new skills.

Activities may include: cooking on the campfire, bushcraft skills, building birdhouses, learning heritage crafts and lots more (let us know what you want to try)!

When and where?

Thursday evenings 4:30pm – 6:00pm for blocks of 6 weeks.

Sessions are free to join and based at St Nicks Environment Centre, Rawdon Ave, York, YO10 3FW and the Local Nature Reserve.

What we offer

At St Nicks, we all see and feel the benefits of being outdoors and connected to nature. These benefits can be physical, mental, or a combination of both!

Lots of science and research shows us how this works, but the best way to understand it is to experience it for yourself. Step outside, go for a walk or sit and spend a few quiet moments noticing the birdsong and the trees – you may begin to feel the benefits in your own way.

Our new Nature-Based Wellbeing project aims to help people connect to nature, enjoy the outdoors and feel the benefits of doing so.

  • For adults, we offer a mixed programme of support including group activities, green social prescribing and employability-focused support.

Group Activities

Nature-Based Wellbeing groups help people connect with nature in various ways that interest them, including: gardening and conservationmovement in the outdoorsarts and creativity and ecology and citizen science, through a selection of ‘Peer’ and ‘Skills & Learning‘ groups.

Joining group activities offers a chance to focus on personal wellbeing goals and explore how connecting with nature can help. Maybe you want to feel more able to manage challenges, build self-confidence, meet new people, learn a specific skill or open-up future opportunities while getting outdoors and in nature? Then, our group activities might be for you.

Find out more about Green Social Prescribing and Employability Support on our website.
