Speak up children’s rights and advocacy service
Speak up is the name of York’s Children’s Rights and Advocacy Service. They are dedicated to helping children and young people have their views, opinions and voices heard. They have a few ways they do this so have a read and see what they can do for you.
Speak up Advocacy
Some children and young people have a statutory entitlement to advocacy. This means that there should be services in place so that children and young people can access the right advocacy.

Speak Up provides advocacy to children and young people who are:
- In the care of City of York Council.
- Subject to a Child Protection Plan.
- A care leaver up to the age of 25.
- Aged under 18 and wanting to make a complaint about Children’s Services at City of York Council.
- Aged 16 or 17 and homeless.
- A young parent aged under 18 whose child is subject to a Child Protection Plan.
The service is there to help you understand your rights, and to provide you with help and support on anything and everything to do with being in care. Speak Up like to know your opinion on Children’s Services, on being in care and on what you’d like to happen in your life.
