Dealing with different issues,
managing in different ways

RAY (Refugee Action York)

RAY offers support to refugees, asylum seekers and migrants in York, aiming to help people feel welcomed and accepted, safe and empowered. RAY has lots of options for young people of all ages to get involved in.

What do they offer?

Youth Club
Monday night from 6.30-8.00pm during term-time. There are a lot of different activities at their sessions, including games, sports, arts and crafts, cooking, baking, movie nights, and trips to fun new places.

Age: secondary school so 11-18

As a part of the Youth Club, you can have your say about what you want to do – your ideas help RAY design sessions that everyone will love and help choose where they go on trips out, like bowling, trampolining, kayaking and more.

Sports Club
It runs 6-7pm on a Thursday night, every 2 weeks during school term time.

Age: secondary school so 11-18

RAY’s sports club have access to the Haxby Rd Sports Centre’s facilities, there are endless sports to try! They also take sports trips to try new activities like kickboxing with professional coaches. And just like a Youth Club, you can have your say in which sports you want to try.

The Hub

ALL AGES WELCOME

They share food from all different cultures and celebrate the many cultures which make up the RAY family. There are games and activities for all age groups, from babies and toddlers to primary school and secondary school children. The Hub is a great place to come together with your family or foster parents and meet other RAY service users.

One-to-one Mentoring
RAY also have mentors. Whether you would like someone friendly to hang out with sometimes, help with a particular subject at school, tailored tutoring to prepare for GCSE or A-Level, or some one-on-one football coaching, RAY can match you with one of their mentors. They will speak to you about what you need, and find the right person for you. You can meet your mentor in person or online, at a time that suits you.

Mother Tongue Language Classes
RAY can also help you gain a qualification in your mother tongue. Weekly language classes are offered to all young service users if they would like to have them. For primary school aged children these are held at the monthly Hub session, and for secondary school age you are eligible for weekly classes to help you work towards a GCSE or A-Level.
