Lollipop

What do they offer?

Lollipop offers a safe space for children and young people with any degree of deafness from mild to profound, temporary or permanent and also children of deaf adults (CODA) to meet and build friendships with others, with whom they can share their experiences of deafness. They run monthly sessions in and around York, usually with exclusive use of the venue doing a variety of activities often requested by members themselves.

All sessions have communications support or a BSL interpreter present and are tailored to the needs of our members. You will meet Lollipop staff and volunteers who are there to look after and support members.

Who are they for?

Lollipop membership is for deaf children and young people with any level of deafness from mild to profound, temporary or permanent, and children of deaf adults (CODA) from 0 – 25 years who live in and around the surrounding areas of York. They also offer whole family support with a dedicated Parent Liaison Officer who can offer communications support and signposting to other services where needed.

Membership is FREE and all activities are FREE and run in a relaxed and informal environment. There is an online Facebook group (Lollipop Parent Chat Group) for parents of members where they can ask questions or arrange social meet ups. Lollipop aims to encourage members to try something new, build confidence, increase self-esteem and develop their self-identity.
