Explore York Libraries and Archives
Whether you want a safe space to sit or do some homework, go to one of their café’s or delve into their array of books and local history, York Explore have 15 libraries around York that may just offer something for you that can help you manage your mental health.
What do they have to offer?
Shelf help – a selection of both fiction and non-fiction books designed at supporting people through whatever they may need for their mental health and wellbeing.
Safe space and Café’s – Not all the libraries have a café, but the libraries can offer people a relaxed environment where you can feel safe.
Volunteering opportunities – Across York there are a range of volunteering opportunities to help you build confidence and dip your toe in the water of a new role or responsibility.

What is the difference between an Explore library and the other libraries?
The Explore Libraries are the larger libraries, they generally have more facilities, more staff, have longer opening hours and a larger choice of books.
The Explore Libraries are:
York Explore – Library Square, York YO1 7DS
Acomb Explore – Front Street, Acomb YO24 3BZ
Clifton Explore – Rawcliffe Drive, York, YO30 6NS.
Tang Hall Explore – The Centre @ Burnholme, Mossdale Avenue, York YO31 0HA.
The other libraries are in smaller buildings and have shorter opening hours and they are in:
Bishopthorpe, Community Stadium, Dringhouses, Dunnington, Fulford, Haxby, Huntington, New Earswick, Poppleton, Strensall.

Libraries with Café
Acomb Explore, Haxby and Wigginton Library, Clifton Explore, Tang Hall Explore and York Explore. They also have Reading Cafes which are cafes with a small selection of library books available and they are at Hungate and Rowntree’s Park.
