Who is it for?

York and Selby talking therapies for anxiety and depression (previously known as IAPT) is for people 16+ and on their website they have a section where you can see whether it is the right service for you Online referral form – York and Selby Talking Therapies

What do they offer?

The talking therapies service provide evidence-based treatment for people with depression and anxiety disorders; and long term physical health conditions and medically unexplained symptoms where some one is also experiencing anxiety and depression. NHS Talking therapy match NICE recommended therapies to the persons mental health problem where high quality care is provided by clinicians to support a client to continually improve. At each session questionnaires are completed to monitor outcomes on a session-by-session basis, where the clinician can help guide the persons progress.

There are a range of different treatments so appropriate care and support is given to the person to meet their needs. These are below;

  • Psychoeducational courses
  • Computerized CBT
  • 1:1 Guided self Help
  • Counselling for depression
  • Interpersonal Therapy (for depression)
  • CBT
  • EMDR (for PTSD only)

Talking therapies can work with particular needs but not with others and so it is important to understand what it is that they can and can’t provide. The table in the photos shows the range of things that talking therapy both can and can’t work with.

Talking therapies would not be suitable for anyone who is not able to engage in treatment. This can be from them being at immediate risk to themselves or from use of alcohol or drugs to a level stopping them from engaging. (This will be talked about at the assessment)
