Dealing with different issues,
managing in different ways

Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS)

A specialist service for children and young people up to the age of 18 experiencing mental health issues that are significantly impacting their daily lives.

What the service offers?

CAMHS offers a range of NICE approved (National Institute of Health and Care Excellence) therapies including, individual and group therapies. The service offers support and treatment that cover a whole range of mental health conditions such as, Autism, ADHD, Anxiety, Depression, Psychosis and Eating Disorders using a trauma informed approach.

Who can get help?

They cover a wide range of mental health conditions but in order to be eligible for their services they need to be having a significant impact on your everyday life. This means you can’t do everyday tasks like looking after yourself, staying clean, going to school or college and being social with your friends.

How to get help?

If you would like to refer yourself, you can do by calling 01904 615345 between 10am and 11.30am Monday to Friday. Someone will call you back, there are a few different roles that people who work there do, so it might be an administrator, support worker or a clinician who calls you, depending on what you are referring for or what your question is.

If you want to refer yourself for help with ADHD or Autism, they would like the referral to come from your school or college, this is because your school or college can give them certain information about how you are doing.

Other important info

Right, the point of this website is to be open and honest with young people about who and what is available to them. CAMHS is a specialist service this means it has a high threshold to who they can help and who they can’t. Just like all services they have their limits, they can only help so many and like all NHS services they are stretched and have long waiting lists.

Sometimes people think that this is the only place you can go to receive support with your mental health, it isn’t, have a look around and see what other support and services are available or ask any professional for signposting support, this may include your school, GP or CAMHS

We want you to get the right help for you and CAMHS may be that, if your mental health is impacted every day and your struggles are severe then self-refer yourself or ask your doctor or school to refer you but we want you to understand that you may have to wait for help and support from CAMHS.

There are lots of opportunities to be part of the CAMHS service from careers to volunteering and co- creation.  If you would like to know more please contact : tewv.orcahouse@nhs.net
