Bereaved children support York
They are an organisation that supports children and families in York when a child experiences the death of a family member. This experience can have a huge impact on them, and the grieving process can take time. However, there are things that can help, from talking to people, to meeting other people who have been through a similar thing. BCSY exist to help support this process.
What do they offer?
Monthly Drop in Sessions
An opportunity for children who have lost someone significant to come together and play, do crafts and activities knowing everyone there has experienced something similar. It’s a chance for bereaved children and their families to meet others, for peer support in a relaxed atmosphere. Pop in for 5 minutes or stay for the full 2 hours… or anything in between.
They meet in the first Saturday of each month.
2- 4pm at Oaken Grove Community centre (Reid Park, Haxby, YO32 3QW)

Every child and young person who has experiences the death of a loved one will grieve differently. It can be distressing and overwhelming but grief is normal. However, some children may need support from outside their family and friends.
BCSY offer one to one therapeutic support where anyone can refer a child to the service (they ask for parental consent is obtained before the referral is put in).
- The service is for 5–18-year-olds but if you would like to refer a child under 5 then they ask you to please contact them first to discuss.
- It is also for children and young people who live in York(under City of York council boundaries)
How do you refer?

Complete the referral form and return it via email or post
They will aim to contact the parent/carer with 7 days of the referral to arrange an initial appointment or to explain that the child has been put on the waiting list.
