Dealing with different issues,
managing in different ways

Converge at York St John (18+)

Converge has provided courses for adults who use or have used mental health services for over 10 years. In a supportive educational setting, Converge helps develop skills and knowledge through a variety of courses that they offer, allowing people to thrive in what they may have a real interest in.

What they offer?

Converge is not therapy of any sort but does give the opportunity to grow yourself through education, in a supportive environment, if you have suffered from mental ill health.

The courses range from creative writing and theatre, to academic skills and art. They allow you develop skills you may be interested in or that you might have just fallen out of love with.

The courses are free and range from 4-10 weeks in length.

At Converge, everyone who attends is considered a student of Converge and not someone who is in therapy, where they assist you in education, not mental health.

They update their courses they offer quite frequently so if you want to be kept up to date email converge@yorksj.ac.uk

Here is their prospectus for you to have a bit more of a read.

You can also email them to ask for a printed version of the prospectus to be posted out to you.

Who is it for?

18+

Anyone who has received mental health support previously, or who has experienced mental ill health.

How to get involved

On the Converge website here https://www.yorksj.ac.uk/converge/apply/ these is an application form that you need to fill out.

On the application form it has all the generic information that you need to fill in as well as what courses you are interested in.

All you have to do is fill it out and return it to converge@yorksj.ac.uk

If you need some help with the application then you can email them at converge@yorksj.ac.uk to book a 1 to 1 appointment with a member of their team to help you.

Places on courses are limited so they try to get you on one of your first two choices when you fill out the application form.

They will let you know whether you have a place on the course by text, email or post (depending on how you wanted to be contacted). Sometimes they will want to conduct an individual interview with you to make sure what you are applying for is right for you.

Courses run during the Spring Term (February to June) and the Autumn Term (September to December). If you send in an application form half way through a term, they might not be able to guarantee you a place on a course, as the courses will already be running. But don’t worry – if they can’t offer you a place straight away, they can definitely add you to their mailing list for the following terms’ courses. This means you will be able to apply in plenty of time to be offered a place on a Converge course next time they run.
